James River Crew Mission Statement.
As James River Crew Rapids, the team emphasizes an introduction to the sport of rowing for lifelong enjoyment. Students wil work as one in the ultimate team, disciplined sport. Pursuit is for the love of rowing. Those athletes aspiring to championship crew and collegiate opportunities will be provided outside and additional, independent resources and competitions.
The crew team of James River High School is made up of over 70 athletes from all four classes and includes both male and female rowers, novice and varsity. Spring competitions include regattas at Lake Whitehurst in Norfolk, Occaquan, and the James River Regatta hosted at our "home port" at Robious Landing. The Fall "Learn to Row" program is for students new to rowing and runs from September to November. A fall Head of the James race is held at Robious Landing. The sport is not funded by school and is entirely parent/volunteer driven.
